In his art, Lewton searched for ways to feature the beauty he found in the commonplace: in this case, the boats he loved, and the boatyards filled with trailers, machines, and vehicles supporting the needs of a nautical community. He had a high regard for these workplaces and great respect for the knowledge and labor provided by its workers. He imbued his paintings with this spirit by using his unique sensibility for light, color and composition.
